Jen Kusmer

Jen Kusmer is a criminal defense attorney at JCS Law in Clayton, Missouri. She has tried cases in Missouri, Illinois, federal, and juvenile courts, defending clients charged with serious offenses including murder, assault, and sex crimes. In addition to trial-level defense, Jen handles appeals and post-conviction relief matters in both state and federal courts.

In 2025, Jen was selected as a Missouri Rising Star by Super Lawyers, an honor awarded to only 2.5% of eligible attorneys statewide based on peer nominations and independent evaluation.

Jen earned her J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law, graduating in the top 25% of her class with a concentration in Criminal Litigation Skills. During law school, she received multiple Academic Achievement Awards, including in Legal Research and Writing, and competed on SLU Law’s National Trial Competition Team. She gained hands-on experience through the Missouri State Public Defender’s Civil Commitment Defense Unit and SLU Law’s Criminal Defense Clinic.

She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Criminal Justice Studies, magna cum laude, from Bellarmine University. Jen has been committed to criminal defense since her undergraduate years and is known for her strong advocacy, thorough preparation, and dedication to protecting her clients’ rights.
